Some components of my neckpiece just don’t look like the others in
that the patina is strong and vibrant in some places, weak and dull
in others. I understand that I simply have to torch the liver of
sulpher patina off and try again, but can I do this since these
components are all keum-booed?
Use your torch lightly to heat your piece then put it into the
warm/hot liversulfer. You don’t have to remove the old finish to get
a darker color. You could also try heating the piece on a hot plate
and then put it into the liversulfer. For a deeper black, I usually
heat my metal before putting it into the solution.
An ionic cleaner (Speed brite is the one I have) will clean the LOS
off in seconds without harming your gold or silver foil (no heat
involved). Here’s info. on the cleaner itself (which is available
from many suppliers and on eBay): http://www.speedbrite.com/ionic%20cleaner.htm
