Too shiny?

Believe it or not, I think my vibratory tumbler sometimes does too good
of a job polishing fine silver. A bracelet made of 12- and 14-gauge wire
came out so bright and mirror-like, the Byzantine weave is obscured.
However, the slightest imperfections (hard to avoid with fine silver) are
more noticeable.

The total lack of color reminds me of chrome rather than silver. I am used
to silver having a touch of white.

What exactly is a Butler’s finish? It sounds like something between matte
and mirror finishes. I think it would be better for my purposes, but I
don’t know if it can be accomplished in a vibratory tumbler.
