[Tidbits] Clock Knife

Answers to last week: Lana Turner. Frank Sinatra. The Ring.

The mail is coming in. Quick. What time is it? Who the hell seals
these things anyway. Can’t open the envelope. Sealed too tight.
Whaddya mean you don’t know what time it is? Mail’s probably late.
As usual. Mumble mumble. Grumble grumble.

Hey. I need a letter opener here. I need a clock. I need a piece of
agate. Ya got any blue enamel? Something in red “sang-de-boeuf”
maybe. Roman numerals on the face pal. A couple of cobochon emeralds
ain’t gonna hurt none. How about the winder on the clock made of a
carved emerald bead and capped with a cabochon sapphire on a carved
coral base? Ya. Sehr gut.

Shall we proceed. A white face wouldn’t hurt. Some Roman numerals
for classical taste perhaps? Ya can’t beat flair when yer lookin’ fer
style pal?

How about an imprint? How about a price? How about a year? How about
circa 1928? How about Cartier? How about 22,000 smackeroos back in
1990? Conspicuous spending you say? We don’t have equivalents today
you say? Probably not… but if I were to pick a favorite for the
modern era it would be the new BlackBerry Porsche cell phone coming
out around the end of the year in the U.K. for 1,275 which is about
$2000.00… give or take depending on where you look. Just keeping
you folks up to date is all.

That said… when I saw this letter opener I thunk to myself…
hey… I would like one of those. But then penny-pinching caution
became the better part of valor… and I decided to hold off.

Perhaps one day… when I splurge for a new cell phone… I’ll then
go for a new letter opener. Though I must admit it is rather
difficult to decide which is the more “must have” item. Any advice
here would be appreciated.

So. You want to see? Go. You know where. Take a look.

For those of you who are new to this thing called Tidbits…may I
direct you to my home page at http://www.tyler-adam.com where you
will scroll down the left side menu till you get to the area that
says Current Tidbits. Click it… and you will see represented on our
pages… an Agate Desk Clock/Paper Knife letter opener by the
aforementioned Cartier.

And there ya have it. That’s it for this week folks.
Catch you all next week.
