Threading little smith to propane tank

I’m having problems threading my hose connector to my propane tank. I’ve noticed that both sets of threads don’t angle the way that screws do. And there is no thread entry point on either. The propane tank hose connector has two flat spots where the connector presumably slots in. And the hose part that goes to into the tank is ringed with slots. I’m turning clockwise but cannot get the threads to engage. I’ve tried various ways hoping that the flat spots are meeting correctly. I’ve tried pressure but not that much since I’m not that strong. And there is no visual damage to either set of threads. I’ve tried threading at various angles.
Any suggestions of resolving this problem (short of dragging this stuff to my local welding supply store) would be wonderful.

Hi myinnermagpie,

Have you tried threading it on in a counter clockwise direction?

Hi Pam, yes I’ve tried that.

Husband came home and did it. Needed to push harder to get end past the washer.
