Thanks to Orchid

Dear Hanuman and all Orchiders (Orchidians?) Now that the
Millennium has really arrived peacefully and without major
disruption, I hope it is an omen for the next thousand years, or
al least, the coming year. It is really remarkable to me to be
writing the date as 1-2-00! All I can do is echo the feelings
that this is indeed a unique site made up of the kindest people,
and wish that everyone out in jewelry making land accomplish all
your goals and wishes and continue to love what you do and be
extremely successful at it. And thanks again, Hanuman for
making it all possible. Happy New Year! Sincerely, Sandra

We would like to join in thanking all of the people who make
Orchid one of the best sources for jewelry.

You have assisted, advised and encouraged us with incredible
patience and generosity.

Thanks again, best new year

prosperous new millenium Ron

Thank you all and a Happy New Year. I want to thank you all for
your unselfish dedication to this list. One of the high points
of my day is opening the Orchid digest and hearing from “Old
Friends” that I’ve never actually met. The knowledge that I’ve
gained from this list and from your posts is priceless, and the
friendships and people are truly beautiful.

Love and God Bless

First, I would like to thank Dr. Aspler for making the Orchid
site available to so many people of various cultures and
persuasions, all drawn together by the common love of beauty.I
would also thank the individual members for their contributions
which I have read daily for the last six months. In particular,I
would thank Peter Rowe,Charles Lewton-Bain,Kathy Palochak(didn’t
know you had a secret admirer huh?),Nick Snyder, and many others
too numerous to mention. You have helped me to become better than
I would have been otherwise. My only sadness is that I will never
be able to meet you in person.I wish for each Orchidian(?) a
happy and beautiful new year.God bless, John Barton, "Images By JJ "

Hi Hanuman…Just my way of offering a different, rather old
fashioned way of saying thank you, to you and for all of the
list.

With profound apologies to all poets everywhere…

Christmas is over,
The wrappings all torn,
The checkbook lays empty,
The tree still adorned.

The turkey is eaten,
So is the ham.
With Y2K here,
Did you stock enough Spam?

Now comes the time,
For thanks here to give.
To Hanuman and Orchid,
For support substantive.

To Fishbre and Jagman,
Skip, Peter and John.
Colleen and Frenchart,
I give thanks every one.

To all fine Orchidians,
Whom I have not named,
You've helped me immensly,
I'm so glad I came.

Best wishes and hopes
To all of you here
May all of your dreams,
Come true this New Year.

Lisa, (Happy New Year everyone!), Topanga, CA, USA

tired to respond but I still wanted to see what everyone was up
to.I enjoy being part of this community and wish eveyone peace
in the coming year and beyond. JMO Coyote Ridge

the material, the content, the level of professionalism,

To Hanuman, Dr. Aspler and fellow Orchidians:

Please accept my humble gratitude for an excellent site. You
should be extremely proud of such an excellent site, and for
fostering the intense brotherhood of humanity. I feel it helps to
bring out the best in all of us. My expression of graditude is
far too inadequate, nevertheless, thank you for such a fine job.

I’d like to add my thanks to Hanuman and all the wonderful
people on Orchid. Being here has been such a valuable experience
for me. So many folks with such a wide spectrum of knowledge.
And every now and then the sheer worldwide scope of the
discussions simply overwhelms me. The future really is now!

Happy new millennium to all.

Thanks to Orchid and Hanuman for having this wonderful site. It is
responsible for my meeting friendly and and hospitable people in the
San Diego area. I sent an email to orchid saying I would be in the
San Diego area and was hoping to meet some fellow Orchidians.
Louise Gillingham amswered amd invited me to the San Diego Enamalists
Guild christmas party. I received a warm welcome and met some
wonderful people. I then received an invitation from Carolyn
Williams inviting me to her home in Chula Vista to spend the day
learning how to enamel. We worked til the early hours of the morning
and after a good sleep we started in again and i ended up with a
beautiful pair of earrings. Carolyn also generously gave me an
enamel piece she was working on. The reason I am writing all of this
is to tell all of you how lucky we all are,to have Orchid and the
opportunities it offers us. Especially for me coming all the way from
New Hampshire to California. I have not given up on a New England
meeting this spring in N.H. so keep your eyes peeled for an
announcement in the near future.

Dear Orchid Members, I am fresh from an amazing experience thanks to
Orchid. After an email conversation with Gerrald Lewy about classes
in stone setting he graciously invited me to visit him in Toronto for
a crash course. I spent several days at his elbow taking notes and
following him around while he visited casters, polishers, jewelers
and others in the 14 story building where he works and in the
neighborhood. Part of the education was watching the interactions
with the other craftsmen and with those that arrived in his office
with rush orders. Gerry shares his office with a stone dealer and I
also learned from him. We went to the class that Gerry teaches at
George Brown University and I had the benifit of his teaching in a
formal situation too. His lessons are always given with humor and
this helps the student to remember. This experience was so rich and
helpful that it is hard to put into words. Gerry is a natural
teacher, able to remember that the student doesn’t have all the
knowlege that he has. He explains very clearly and tells you why he
does things this way and what happens if you chose another way.
Gerry has spent his life learning his craft and is now deeply
commited to teaching others. Thank you Orchid for making it possible
for a novice form the wilds of Michigan’s UP to meet and visit and
learn from an urban maven from another country. Lori

And Orchid’s thanks go to Gerry for his generous sharing of his vast
experience. We have all come to count on him for stone setting
advice, and he is always there when we need him.

Dear all AND Lori ! I am sitting here humbled again, don’t know why?
I gave so much to Lori it seemed a bit draining for me.
After each rigorous day of “demo’s” and she doing a few setting
situations. We both felt a tad exhausted at the end of the day.

There is nothing much to say about how I teach or work, its been
just a wonderful experience for me to help others who meet ‘us’ here!
To help just one person (Lori) in a “forest of unknown’s” is what
makes our life so worthwhile. It is a great sin to leave this world
and not to teach or help people who need us. I have not finished
doing this,…by a long shot…:>) !..“and you ain’t seen nothing
yet…!”

In our Jewish religion, we have a compilation of ways to give
Charity, my way is foremost on the list… “not to give money”…but to
teach those to make a living for themselves and in turn to feed their
families! I just had another class last night and the progress is
quite evident. Rewarding to say the least, for me and to my
classmates. If Lori wishes to return to my office for another
workshop, my doors are always open to her. We “mentors” must realise
that we were in those folks same shoes so many years ago. We have to
gear our methods of instruction down to their level, that is the
’gift’ we should use. A gentle touch or “very good” goes a long way
when ‘they’ are learning !

Thank you Lori!..:>)
“Gerry, the Cyber-Setter !”

If not for the posting on Orchid I would never have been aware of
the Michael Boyd class at/hosted by the Tucson Parks and Recreation
during the Tucson shows this year. It was a spectacular class and
Michael has a great “toolbox” filled with his little experiments
which he made available for all to see. He was very giving Re: his
techniques and at a very small fee for the 2 day class - $150 -a
total bargain!! I guess it’s time to visit Paypal and do another
donation to Hanuman. Many thanks again!!
