Hello Marilyn, Well, first, its wasn’t an everyday thing
but I introduced jewellry to my advanced students about three
years ago as a perk. They (of course) loved it. 
This year I
decided to take the plunge and integrate it into my curriculm for
a Crafts class. My intro for it was as a process which gives the
extra meaning to the product (among the many other facets of
design, aesthetics, craftmanship, etc.)…let’s face it, a well
done piece is a time consuming one with a lot of blood, sweat and
tears put into it, which is one of the things I love about it.
It has been well received and now my little ones are clamoring
for the sterling the forum mentioned. Thanks for the interest!
