MY PROBLEM IS THIS: Just had a person who traveled to Tanzaneaia
bring back to me: 20KT jewel quality clear crystal with point
Tanzanite. also a 100KT piece of rough with about 4 clear spots...
I left both stones in studio in plastic little bags zipped. the
point is fine...the Rough seems to have drained? h20 or perhaps
glycern??? anyway the liquid now in the plastic zip bag has
liquid... What have I done or has someone done to this stone? This
is quite an investment, Can some one Please inform me. Thanks SO

Proper name for Tanzanite is zoisite, which becomes Tanzanite after
been heated. While the suggesting that crystal can leak because it
contains liquid inclusions is the most hilarious thing I have heard
in years, even if we assume possibility of that simply for argument
sake, all such liquid would evaporate while heating the crystal,
providing that such crystal survives the treatment because more
likely is that such leaky crystal would simply explode. I am afraid
but the reason here is more prosaic. The buyer was simply screwed.
I’m imagining the Tanzanite was set into a dome ring and there was
liquid trapped inside from when it was in the ultrasonic and then
afterwards it leaked out. In 25 years I have never heard anything
like a leaky Tanzanite. Opal have trapped water inside but only in
such microscopic amounts that you’d probably never find it even if
you were looking pretty hard.
Thank You for your response. And I too am laughing now…I learned
that spouse had both crystals in pocket and this went through the
washer not the dryer! The tiny bag with the finest crystal (20k) was
’leak proof’’ but the larger (100k) crystal’s bag must have opened.
