Suggestions for hinged rings for large knuckles?

Hi all,

I’m wondering if any of you have experience, either as a wearer or
vendor, of rings with a hinge and catch for people with large
knuckles? I have a client who would like a hinged ring and so far it
seems there are a lot of negative reviews of Superfits, saying they
fail after a few months. If there are other options that you can
recommend (or if someone has figured out the secret to keeping a
Superfit in good shape) I would love any advice you can give. He
wants a very clean look, preferably a flat band at least 6mm wide but
would prefer 7 or 8. Thanks for anything you can send my way!

Hi Julia,

I looked around a while ago and didn’t like any of the parts I was
seeing, so I opted to make my own hinged rings:

I have a few other hinged designs in my shop as well. They really
are not hard to do, and seem to be holding up well.

IMO the superfit shank is the best adjustable shank ever devised. All
adjustable shanks fail after a certain time, that’s dependant on how
the owner treats them and how they use them and how often they take
off the ring. I’ve seen superfits that were some years old and had
some play to them, but were still going strong. FWIW
