[Suggestion] Orchid Pin

HI All -

I really like the idea of an orchid motif/logo which can then be
embellished by each of us; however…, knowing myself, I also like
the sticker idea - sometimes I have a hard time getting my projects
done on time!

Ivy

Hi all I proposed this the first time the question of an orchid symbol
came up and got no response …thought I’d throw it out again and see
if it flies this time. What about using the ganoksin symbol itself
with an orchid flower attached maybe at the top or on one of the
“arms” of the design that way we acknowledge both the parent site and
the forum itself. If you have never seen the symbol follow the link
attached and see what you think. http://www.ganoksin.com/clipart/logosml.gif

Good idea :)

I still see the sticker idea as being useful also. Certainly a small
sticker on the already required name badge would be an immediately
recognizable feature. But I’m also going to look for your cool orhid
pin to be worn along with your name badge. NET

I would think that if the purpose of the pin/logo is to be used as a
fund raiser, that there would need to be a single recognizable
pin/logo that would make a statement to the outside world. This
pin/logo could be manufactured for selling and raising funds.

great idea! I would definitely go along with it and would suggest
that whomever develops the pin, part of their profits go back to the
Orchid line/ganoksin site to cover some expenses/fund new agreed upon
projects.

I went to the site Ron suggested,
www.ganoksin.com/clipart/logosml.gif and I really like his idea. The
logo is very pleasing in itself and whatever is done to add on the
orchid part would need to be done tastefully so as not to give the
viewer an out of balance or unsettled feeling. Hmm, even if the logo
as it is was sitting on very small letters ORCHID , not much wider
than the bottom of the piece it self. OK, throwing the ball back into
play now… NET

Has this already been suggested?

If a specific design was selected and the graphic was then available
to all, each member could produce their own rendition or translation,
originating from the same starting point, using whatever means and
materials, tools and techniques they preferred. This idea is solely in
regards to making a pin to identify ourselves with, and is not to
intended to interfere with the very good ideas presented so far, for
an official Orchid Pin to be reproduced in volume.

I have to agree with using the orchid logo for the orchid pin…after
all this is Hanuman’s ball, I think!! and I would think any profit
should go back to the Orchid project, Ganoskin included simply for
the fact we all owe it alot!.Lisa in New York

Hi All, If we came up with a logo, I could get a"wholesale price"
from a contact I have in the business of making this kind of pin.
It’s the kind of pin that companies give out at conventions etc. I
have seen them on badges and have worn them myself. I also think it
would be a good fund raiser for orchid. We have gotten so much from
orchid,I would like to give something back.

I also like the idea of using the Orchid logo to identify ourselves.

My suggestion is an image approx 1/2 inch high and 2 inches long,
with the logo to the left, the word Orchid to the right, with the URL
under it. Not only would we be able to identify each other, but it
would be a way to bring new jewelers into the group.

The image could be available to print as a sticker, and if we can
find a manufacturer at a fair price, it could be made as an enamel
background pin for sale to members. This would help raise funds too.
I know I’d buy one.

ok, just an off suggestion to those who are into it… I belong to a
renaissance group of artisans…alot of them are musicians, but they
have their fair share of sculptures, jewelers, and three dimensional
artists…every year we have a party, where each member of the group
is given a pin…each year someone designs the pin and several
people donate their time and effort into making them. It’s sometimes
a pain, but when we are out you can track the approx. 80 members
(including the ones you don’t know) by the pin they wear. It would
be nice while walking around the ja show or the tuscon show…Hey,
your an orchid member too! just thought I would share -julia in PA

Hi Gang,

If I might make a suggestion.

If you’re thinking of making a pin that’ll be easily recognizable at
show like the Tucson show, it’s going to have to compete for space
with several other badges.

Some of the badges are business card size, some are 3 x 4 inches. The
larger ones (plastic badge holders, the badges slip inside) tend to
get covered with little round (about 1") stickers from some of the
shows aren’t to strict about admission. I’ve got one holder that has
stickers from 4 different shows.

It’s not uncommon to see some folks wearing 3 or 4 large badges &
some of them may have some of the small stickers on them. From a
practical point of view, probably the best place to wear a badge &
have it recognized would be on your back (bg). It’s almost impossible
to recognize a small badge while someone is walking toward you unless
you’re already familiar with the badge. The easiest place to
recognize a badge is when someone has stopped to look at the contents
of a booth or display case or while waiting for one of the shuttles.

I also like Ron’s idea of using the logo. The idea crossed my mind
as well. Orchid members would pick up on it immediately. I like the
idea of a 3 dimensional pin as well. Afterall it’s what we do. Let’s
see…How many votes is that?

Evening:

After reading all the posts on the Orchid Pin for the last two years,
I thought I would set down and try my hand at it.

The following link has the end result of trying to design with my
eyelids closing.

http://www.FacetersCo-Op.com/orchidpin.jpg

The basic design is just the Letter “O” for Orchid with the Ganoksin
Logo inserted in the center. This could be cast in a pin. with the
“O” painted or enameled, the Ganoksin Logo Gold Plated and it’s
background Painted or enameled. Just some food for thought from a
late night in Western PA.

Dave, Not such a bad idea. We could of course all wear an Orchid Lei.

I really think the color is the key. An orchid colored orchid sticker
that could be worn on a badge, or higher. Somewhere closer to the
neck, perhaps a collar or lapel.

Many of the many badges are now worn on a cord around the neck, and
dangle below eye level.

New jewelry style, imagine a small pin to be worn right on the
shoulder seam, with a chain fore and aft with a dangling Orchid. This
way it can be seen coming and going.

We could get real fancy and wire them a la twinkling battery powered
lavender colored tiny Christmas lights.

Yes I know, quit while I was ahead. You know, one of those
plastic orchid leis, taken apart, with a tie tack added to the single
flower, could be worn on the shoulder. Teresa

Teresa, We could all wear hats with orchids (silk or plastic) sewn
all over them… that shouldn’t be too hard to miss. Susan Chastain

G’day Oh yes, that’s really more like it; I’d have one. Could be
printed out on sticky paper or made into a pin. Cheers

Hello Albert, I like your design. Rather Napoleonic with the gold
over the blue, yet classically simple. While the reference to Orchid
is only apparent to the members, Masonic designs have the same
mystery. It will be interesting to see what transpires so far as
identifying garb or pin/sticker/flower/etc. to be worn in Tucson and
other events. Thank you for taking the initiative and starting the
ball rolling. Judy in Kansas

Hello Everyone!

I took the liberty to change Ron’s pin colors just a little bit.
Have a look.

Dear John and fellow memebers I agree completely with John .This is a
great choice for 3 reasons. 1, it would make a great pin 2, it would
also make a great T-Shirt front or back /sticker /hat/ect and 3, the
people who would like to make their own could ( with proper
permissions of course ( I instantly thought of 22K set in lapis with
a textured silver O ) …but the real question is what does Dr.
Aspler think of it, it is his baby. For those of you that haven’t seen
it follow this link Ron
