Strange dental equipment

Hey Elaine, The dental equipment is absolutely for real. Think
about it for a moment, of all the sewing machines Singer
manufactures, the largest selling on a world wide basis is still
the treadle style. There are still vast parts of the world
without electricity, but the people still need dental work.
Street dentists all across India and the Himilaya still rely on
foot power for drilling teeth, and I would expect more or less
the same thing throughout much of Africa. Personally, I would
hope never to need such help, but then, I know how spoiled I
really am. Cheers! MP

There may be advantages beyond not needing electricity. My wife
is a professional tailor, with sewing machines designed to run at
more than 4000 stitches per minute, 24 hours a day. She also has
a couple of treadle machines, for the times when she needs
absolute control - one stitch at a time, if necessary.

I can easily believe there are advantages to a foot-powered flex
shaft.
