Stone identification

Hi Tai,

Locate someone in our area (gemmologist) to find out what you have and ask
to have your stone tested for( since you do not seem to have the
appropriate test equipments for it):

  • (1) polariscope, is that stone singly or doubly refractive?
  • (2) refractometer, what is the RI of that stone?
  • (3) have it immersed in a set of SG liquids, get the stone SG?
  • (4) look at it through a microscope, and find the inclusions?

Let us guess from your findings…!!!

From experience:

I have learned that I could never, and would never, positively identify a
stone by its visual appearances and that I could never positively ID any
particular stone without running it trough the basic primeraly tests and
then…??? . However, even those primarely tests aren’t always sufficient
to positively ID a stone and sometimes are unconclusive, then more
testings must be done.

Best Regards,

Francoise.

It could be fiber eye. The ends of fiber optic cables. When
cabbed, it almost makes a lightning bolt (z shaped) cats eye. I’ve
seen it in almost all colors, but Grey is the most popular.
