Specialty metal company

Hello,

I am trying to see if you can tell me the name of a company whose
name I forgot. They sell small gauge metal you can fashion into
punches, drill rod and such. If I remember correctly, they have three
initials, but darned if I can remember. Can anyone out there help me
so I can quit slapping myself on the forehead?

thanks

Try L. S. Starrett in Athol, Mass. They’ve been in business since
the beginning of time and market a variety of tool steels.

Are you thinking of MSC? McMaster-Carr is good too…

james, check out MSC----mscdirect.com

There are a lot of 3 letter companies out there, but these are the
folks I deal with most often, good prices, good service and you can
order in small quantities of specialty metals and plastics.

http://www.metalexpress.net
and

both have a good range of products.

Hi James,

Could it be MSC (mscdirect.com). They’re an industrial supply house
that may have what you’re looking for.

Most tool supply catalogs have what you want. Enco is one, Harbor
Freight often has them. You are looking for drill rod I presume. Got
a junk yard near by? Valve stems work great. Just cut off the head.
Very cheap!

Orchid,

I would like to thank everyone that responded to my question on
specialty metals. It was MSC. The Orchid community is so great and
helpful. Thanks again.

In addition to the mentioned catalog houses, McMaster, MSC,
ENCO…I think maybe even Grainger…

A lot of local based industrial distributors will stock the O-1 and
W-1 drill rod…usually fractional sizes…i.e. 3/32, 1/8, 1/4, etc. A
3’ section is not expensive at all…

As mentioned, the stuff comes annealed, and if you have a gas stove
in the kitchen, one can heat treat most of the smaller sizes…

To temper (final harden) it, or do a draw as I seen it called…a
toaster oven will even work… I suppose a regular oven would work
also…
