[Source] Picture jasper cabs

I am looking for picture jasper cabochons. I need smaller sizes like
4 x 6, 6 x 8, and up to 10 x 12, but not bigger, in ovals,
rounds and squares. Does anyone know of a good supplier of these?

Tonni, I cut a lot of Picture Jasper cabs. One of the problems with
cutting smaller sizes is that the material does not lend ittself to
nice scenes in smaller cabs. Another problem is availablility of
rough from locations other than Succor Creek. Ocassionally I get a
nice smaller cab. Usually it will be in the 10X12 size and not any
smaller. Right now I have none available in smaller sizes. Write to
me and I will see what can be done to meet your request. I have
standing orders for other stones that are only rarely produced. You
can be added to the list if you desire.

Picture stone that I’ve seen around has always been cuts med. to
larger cabs for an overall “picture.” If there is any cut small
there won’t be much of a picture. So, I’ll keep an eye open if I go
around the rock shops.

tonni -

i’m no expert on picture jasper with only a couple of hundred kilos
of rough as well as larger cabochons i’ve cut & polished BUT those
sizes defeat the purpose for using ‘picture’ jasper - you don’t get
a ‘picture’ in a 6 mm x 4 mm cab or even much of one in a 12 mm x 10
mm cab. you’d have difficulty identifying one as biggs or deschutes,
rocky butte or disaster peak or succor creek or palomino or wild
horse canyon - beginning to get the ‘picture’ of the problem?

good luck -
