[Source] Harlequin Quartz

Hello Orchidland,

I am looking for a source for Harlequin Quartz either en cabochon or
faceted. The stone is also called Red Fire Quartz. Does anyone cut
this stone or know of a source for it?

Thank you,
MAC

Mac

This material was being shown by a very few of the dealers at the
Gem and Mineral show in Teofilo Otoni, Minas Gerais, Brasil in August
last year.

I didn’t see too much of it - though - and it didn’t really interest
me at the time. Thus I didn’t inquire about prices or availability.

I didn’t see it at the Tucson show in February 2006 (of course I
wasn’t looking for it either)

I am going again to the Gem and Mineral show in Teofilo Otoni, Minas
Gerais, Brasil in August of this year and can look for this material
for you. For what sizes, shapes and quantities are you looking? Do
you want faceted or cabs?

Best regards,

Hi Mac

As far as I can find out Harlequin Quartz (also called Fire Quartz)
is usually reddish stained quartz, though also clear, with red
coloured titanium, Hematite or Lepidochrosite flecks. There are
about half a dozen metaphysical shops that carry this type, just
Google it. I did not see any in cabochon though. It appears it is
coming out of either Spain or Madagascar.
