[Source] Emerald cut, deep basket wanted

Hello,

I wish to buy a 10x14, deep belly, emerald-cut mounting (head only)
to fabricate a ring. The depth of the stone is 10.5mm deep from the
crown to the culet, and 8mm from the girdle to the culet.

I do not have a Stuller’s account any more, and Tripps,
Fargotstein’s Indian Jeweler’s Supply, Alpha, and Rio Grande do not
carry such a head. Can anyone help me?

You could either :

  1. Fabricate a crown.
  2. I could carve a crown for you in wax - to be cast.

I’d be happy to help you !

OR, 3. You could modify a basket you purchase. Buy one that fits
the dimensions of the stone to be set and simply open the belly to
fit your stone!

Hi Sheridan in Chicago!

Why don’t you fabricate your own basket? I learned to take my stone
(that had a deep belly) imbed it in clay or children’s play doh,
with a little extra depth to allow for prongs. Then pull the stone
out gently, fill the cavity with investment and let it get hard. When
the investment is hard (an hour or so), you pull the investment out
of the clay and turn it over. You now have a cast of your stone to
create your basket. Cut your wires and solder! Piece of cake!

Thank you all so very, very much for your generous gift of time and
ideas. I appreciate your thoughts and will attempt to fabricate one
with Vi Jone’s description of clay and investment.
