Hi, friends,
Maybe someone can save my butt.
A friend asked me to repair a necklace she bought in China. I don’t
normally do repairs (as she knows) but occasionally will, for
friends.
The piece is silver or silver plate with jade (or fake jade) and a
large, drilled cab hanging below. When I went to reattach this drop
after the repair, I broke it. Ironically, I did the metalwork with
ease, and thought, “Man, I’m good at this”, then thought, I kid you
not, “Don’t even THINK that, something will go wrong.”
So, I need a replacement stone, and can send a pic if someone wants
to cut to order, but something fairly close will do. The original
appears to be a somewhat muddy carnelian, 36mm by 26mm “pear” (drop)
shape, about 5.5mm thick in the center, with a hole through the
point. I can drill a hole, no problem (hah!) if someone can furnish a
similar stone. It has to be pretty thin where it is drilled or the
part that goes through it will not fit, and that would open another
whole can of worms.
I can re-cut the old stone, but I’m not so efficient at that, so it
will take forever, plus my lapidary stuff is still at my (separated)
husband’s house, so I’d rather spend a few bucks than a few hours.
Help, anyone?
