i have so many loose bits of solder that i can’t tell which is hard,
medium or easy!?
is there a test i could use to find out which is which?

Nope. That’s why ya gotta keep 'em separate in the first place. And
mark them clearly.

Alan Revere suggests color coding solder sheet…
I think many of us were taught to loop the tops of silver wire
solder. One loop for easy, two for medium, three for hard.
