Should I justbuy some 18K solder?
Yes. Just because your “solder” is a lower karat 14K doesn’t mean
its all that much lower in melting point, or that it would flow well
like a solder needs to do. Modern karat gold alloys change more than
just gold content as one goes from 14K to 18K, and that kinda messes
with that old trick.
