I’ve been using modified small vice grips for a while for setting because of the control with the cam mechanism in them. Now I use my wider leather paded version to press bigger rings smaller. You can apply pressure evenly around the ring instead of being limited with a ring bending pliers as to where you can get the pliers to work.
