Silver turning gold in tumbler

Hello Mary,

Again I say, there is no real recipe. Start with the 2
Tablespoons/cup of water, and add more citric acid to strengthen, or
more water weaken to the solution.

I bought 10# of dry citric acid several years ago from a website
that provided supplies for soap making and bath “bombs.” That was the
smallest amount I could purchase, but it was not expensive. Besides,
citric acid has many other uses around the house… like dissolving
lime on faucets and cleaning the dishwasher. Even with non-pickle
uses, I still have several pounds.

Google for several websites, and have fun, Judy in Kansas where
triple digits are with us. I keep thinking I glow, not sweat!

Swimming pool chemicals work just fine - Dry Acid for pickling and
PHup to stopping the pickling. Dry Acid is mostly citric acid, PH up
is bicarb soda.

I use Poolife pH Minus for my pickle. Active ingredient is Sodium
Bisulfate (92%), which works very well, but can make that dreaded
copper plating. I enjoyed reading Lewton-Brain’s article in today’s
Ganoksin Jeweler’s Bench email about the use of Alum as the pickle.

Judy,

thanks so much for this about buying and using citric
acid.

I’ll explore on the web to find some places to purchase it.

Yes you are right - it would have many uses around the house. my
coffeepot (plastic but with “lime rind” comes to mind!)

Please don’t send your triple digits our way. Right now our temps in
NJ have been running in the 70’s (no not a typo). I’m really enjoying
this!! triple degree heat is always oppressive. I grew up in
Missouri, so I have real sympathy for the glorious glowing you are
doing!

Ever,
Mary
