Silver and white gold colors

so i just finished a piece and the lady i sold it to said it looked
"dull"- of course it was white gold- i know there are different
mixtures- so my 2nd question to all of you is how many shades away
from silver is your white gold? i was really upset that she was so
disappointed in the color- i know a lot of clients don’t realize
that white gold is often plated! thanks for your responses! O.

White gold is not white. Neither is platinum, palladium or any of the
other so called “white metals”. Some alloys are more white, but none
are really white. Silver is the only “white” metal used in jewelry. If
they don’t want silver, then we must educate them as to what metal
actually looks like. You never know, maybe they’ll like it better if
they have the real thing. Rhodium plating will make it look more
white, but I would consider that fraud.
