Shattuckite

Hi all,
I just picked up a parcel of very fine shattuckite cut in the
1940s. It’s from Az, and was cut by a man named Fred Johnson. I
am selling it at below wholesale prices. If you are interested in
the list of stones and prices, please email me privately. Karen

Karen,

Pardon my ignorance, but what is “shattukite”?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is “shattukite”?

I know and have cut a lot of Shattukite,it is a Deep royal blue
stone, with green and other colors that comes out of West
U.S.Looks a little like Azurite,or Lapis.But I would really like
to see a more informative description of what it is,and
specially how did that name come about?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is “shattukite”?

Shattukite is a rare seconddary copper mineral that develops in
the zone of alteration in massiveand disseminated hydrothermal
replacement deposits.it is associated with Malachite, Chrysocolla
and Azurite. Shattukite is a deep blue color and is 3 1/2 on the
mohs hardness scale. The material is quite dense. Personally
having cut, cabbed and carved a bit of this material I like the
color and final appearence of the finished stone.

Hope this is of some help…
Best wishes

Could this be another name for the mineral Covellite
(formula:CuS), often formed by the secondary enrichment of
chalcopyrite,if not, does anyone know the chemical formula for
Shattukite?

Mark,
Hope this helps,

Arem describes shattuckite as various shades of blue, vitreous
to silky luster, undetermined hardness (depends on if it’s mixed
with other copper minerals or quartz), an alteration product of
secondary copper minerals. Stones from the Shattuck mine in
Bisbee, Az (which is where these stones are from): dense blue
massive material ; also psuedomorphs after malachite…the
cabochons are rich blue color and very popular, but the material
is not abundant and seldom seen on the market.

Many of my customers use stones for metaphysical uses. Here is
the use for shattuckite.

This mineral both stimulates and combines energies of the throat
chakra and the third-eye, producing clear concise verbalization
of pyschic visions and of contacts with other worlds. It can be
used in the process of channeling from the spirit
world, as well as in communication between this physical world
and the extra-terrestrial worlds. It does not facilitate the
contact, but allows for precision in the communication after the
contact has been accomplished. It is also used to provide
protection against possession during channeling, allowing for the
protection of the physical body against invasion. Shattuckite can
be used in re-shaping ones reality, this modefication providing
for further growth in the direction of ones choice. It can
increase ones abilities in automatic writing and can sharpen the
higher intuitive powers. It can be used to increase the
coagulation of the blood, to treat tonsillitis, and to clear the
intercellular structures of blockages. It is a lovely “spring
tonic” and can be used in the treatment of all minor health
complaints and as a general elixir.

Shattuckite is Cu5(SiO3)4(OH)2

Laurie,
Formula for shattuckite is Cu5(SiO3)4(OH)2
