My mom has a diamond ring, the center diamond being a 1.5 ct pear and the
flanking diamonds being tapered baguettes. My question for the forum is
what is the best way to “dispose” of such a ring on the net. Where do I
advertise, who do I talk to? I know that this has little to do with
jewelry manufacturing, but it is a valid question. Appreciate any help.

Go to the slums/barrio and watch for a guy that stands on the street
corner and leans his head in a lot of car windows when they stop.He is
probably dealing drugs and he might help you or rob you or kill you so
be careful…Gavin
Robert: I don’t much about diamonds yet but do know that if you go to a
jewelry/coin/precious metals type store they will give you about half of
what its worth and will sell it double what they pay you. Probably best to
find a private buyer I would think, maybe someone else has a better
idea…Dave
I would suggest that you investigate the jewelers auctions(antique or
otherwise) in your area. Most people are suspicious of individuals selling
single items and/or stones per quality and rightful ownership(unless its a
friend… best bet!). You need a front … so to speak… an established
business people tend to trust(right or wrong). and for this service there
is a commission (sometimes negotiable)… price of doing business, moving an
item, etc.
I’d investage the Jewellry (antique or other wise) standing auctions in your
area… put this together with the right time of the year… I’m in a
tourist area … want to ‘put it up’ at the right time of the year! … I
would suggest that most people are very suspicious of individuals selling
single pieces jewelllry as to qualtiy of the item as well as ownership…
Best is some form of a established business to represenet you … yes of
course there is a commisions for this which you sometimes can negociat

<><>*The very best place on the web to advertise that would be www.Polygon.net
But you will have to join to enter $95/month or $375/yr.It is all retail
jewelers and pawnbrokers and and has buy/sell forums. www.Diamonds.net has recently added forum you can access without joining. But
very little trafic.Ganoksin at his website has added classified forum.
