Saw lube

I recently spoke with the owner of a local jewelers supply, and he
states he is out of stock on Almag oil because the stuff is so ^*%^#$
expensive. He said something over $10 per gallon.

Have any of you tried biodiesel as a saw lube? I have a friend who
makes the stuff from used deep-fryer oil, it is basically veggie oil
with the glycerine fraction cracked off. Not terribly flammable, you
can throw a lit match in it and it will just put the match out.

If none of you have checked this out, I will give it a try and
report back with the results.

I haven’t, and will be very interested to hear of your results, Lee.
Thanks.

"After at least 100 failed trials, we found the perfect
water-soluble coolant. Excellent lubricating properties and
rust inhibiters, plus skin conditioners. Most advanced
synthetic coolant on the market. Does not contain nitrosamines,
phenols, nitrates, sulfur, chlorine, phosphates or oil.

Successful tests were made on all sizes of blades up to 24".
We were surprised at how well it works with pro-slicer blades.
10 to 1 for cutting, 20 to 1 for grinding."

They have a website, but it appears to be down. They have a good
catalogue of lapidary equipment, tumbling supplies, and some jewelry
tools and beading supplies.

I have ordered from them over the years, they used to be at Tucson,
don’t know if they still do it.

Call and ask for a catalogue.
