Saw blades and techniques

I just think this is an incredibly “sweet” thing… both the saw…
AND the “chemistry” that seems apparent… sooo nice to see this
these days. Good luck, and good fortune…

i agree, i was taught to always saw at an angle, i don't know
about some of these you tube classes!

Whenever, I see recommendations that saw must always be straight, I
cringe. If that is be true, jeweler’s saw would be useless. The whole
value of it is that it can cut at different angles.

Beginners think that jeweler’s saw is used as the name implies, but
that is wrong. The actual sawing is less than 10% in practice. Most
of the time it is used as file and sometimes even as a drill. It is
a great layout tool and it allows access to places not reachable by
any other instruments. So relax your wrists and use it under any
angle which is convenient. If you do break a blade, most of the time
is due to the lack of sensitivity and nothing else. If you ever took
fencing lessons, the first thing you learn is that sword is held
like a bird. Hold it too tight and you kill it, too lightly- and it
flies away. It is true about saw frames as well.

When I taught a workshop at a university in China a few years ago,
all the students there were taught to use their sawframes with the
handle facing up, towards your face. They did expert piercing with
this method. The students were fascinated to see me sawing with the
handle in the downward position, which seemed very wrong to them.

So who’s to say even whether the handle should face up or down when
sawing??

Got to figure out a suitable belt holster for the thing though... I
was thinking that I need to prominently display my Knew Saw on the
living room wall like those cool bike dudes do with their fancy
schmancy speed bicycles. The red color will definitely contrast
with my walls and furniture, and will get noticed by all!

On that concept, NC BLACK makes these wonderful micro forming
hammers with purple heart wood handles. oh so pretty. They also make
a wall mount hammer “holder” with the wings that looks like their
logo and -saying “Everytime an anvil rings, another hammer gets its
wings” I got the hammers…I wish I had the holder and could give a
different hammer its place of honor on a rotating basis for coolness
factor! Usual disclaimer, just enjoy nice tools- April Bower

Concealed? That would be totally a defeat of the whole point. I'm
thinking of the old west gunslinger type, six shooter prominently
displayed hanging low on each hip, ready for action. Here, we'd
have the instantly available and totally visible saw frame on the
one side, perhaps both, but hammers or files on the other would
work too. And instead of the cowboy hat, it would be an optivisor
or similar..

Peter, reviewing old mail…

Still carry #3 one, concealed. You might just have just cause to lop
his/her head off.

jeffD, still not too nice
