The Sapphire Facetor does use a keyed dop! The good news is that you
can use most any 1/4" dop (unkeyed)! It will work fine without the “v"
groove, they are mainly used for transfering, a machine shop would
probably be able to put the grooves in the dops if you wanted! The
Length of the dops varies from 67 mm (2.5/8’s+) to 48mm (1 29/32’s).
All of mine are either vee or cone dops, except that I have 2 that
are flat Brass with approx 1/2” width. These go with an offset adapter
that came with the machine that I’m not quite sure how to use! These
are the original dops that came with the machine and are made of
Aluminum! There 34 of them along with a 45 degree table jig. The
Transfer Jig is also keyed with a spring loaded point on either side
that keys the dop for transfer, make sure that the spring points are
very free. When I got mine (used) the points were very stickey and
caused some problems with the transfer! E-mail me off line if you need
any more help! Good Luck!

IF the “V” is located by a pin in the chuck, it may be that a 45
degree chamfer on the dop will work just as well except that one
would have to be sure to put the dop back the way it came out and not
180 degrees away. This would be pretty simple to do by marking a red
dot or something on one side of the chuck. Ultratec makes its dops
this way, but plain dops could also just be ground to an approximate
flat at home. It could even be done hand held with the faceting
machine and some emery cloth.
