San Francisco Jewellery Attractions

Hi All

I am hoping to travel to San Francisco in the beginning of November
and as I have never been to the states…would love to have some
advice on where to go to see contemporary jewellery or suppliers or
anything else that is worth seeing. I will be going to Velvet da
Vinci but that is all I know at this point!! Any help would be most
appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Christel van der Laan

Christel-

San Francisco has a “Golden Ghetto”. It’s in the North-West corner
of the City known as the Marina. On Union and Chestnut Streets
you’ll find half a dozen small jewery galleries. Nearby, in the Fort
Mason complex (where the ACC Show is held) you’ll also find several
small museums including the Crafts Museum/Gallery.

On 18th & Castro Street is another great destination: Gallery Flux.

In the East Bay you will find one of the best metal-arts museums in
California…the Oakland Museum of Art. Located on the shores of Lake
Meritt. Readily accessible by BART transit. It has a great
collection of California goldsmith’s work, including my own.

The Asian Art Museum, located in SF’s Civic Center, has a wonderful
collection of Japanese Netsuke and Jade jewelry. Velvet da Vinci is
nearby, within a 5 minute walk.

Good Luck.
Kim.

Dear Christel,

We would be happy to suggest downtown SF and in particular our
building- The Phelan Building at 760 Market St. We have many
jewelers, suppliers, stone suppliers & setters and even a few art
galleries…Plus up the street is Union Square area with some of the
finest jewelry stores on Post St. etc. You are more than welcome to
come to our shop-which is a small trade shop up on the ninth
floor-Donivan & Co./Maggiora Co. My husband & I are working jewelers
for over 25 years each and are happy to show you our work space…Due
to security concerns & hopefully Xmas business–please set up a time
that we can get together…Plus you have the Revere Academy of
Jewelry Arts just down the hallway and Otto Frie Jlry.suppliers next
door…

Sincerely, Jo-Ann & John Donivan

Dear Jo-Ann and John

Thank-you for taking the time to forward all this wonderful
I would love to meet up with you and hopefully - all

at the beginning of November.
