I use mineral oil to help light the stove and usually buy five
bottles at a time. You can imagine the raised eyebrows when I check
out.
Quick answer: soldering temperatures are so high that mineral oil burns off long before the solder has to melt and wet the base metal
The problem with grease/oil would theoretically be with the flux. by
not letting it coat the metal. Thus, by the time the solder melts,
the parts of the metal where the grease/oil was would be
oxidized…How does the flux in paste solder manage to ‘stick to’
and protect the metal if it’s got oil all around it…

Mineral oil is sold at most hardware stores in the pet section. It’s
used for horses. I was using it to dip waxes prior to investing.

My long Haired cat, who is my lab supervisor, monitoring every move
I make in the studio, gets fur balls, and on the advice of the Vet,
when shedding season starts I put a drop or two of mineral oil in
her food, and it helps her evacuate the hair balls. Alma
Hi all,
I know this thread has been going on for a while and I don’t know if
anyone has mentioned “myuniquesolutions (dot) com”. My friend Beth
owns the company and has paste solder for sale. She guarantees it
will not dry out for 5 years.

I’ll second Esta Jo’s suggestion. I’ve used Beth’s solder paste for
years. it’s very good & doesn’t dry out.

Mineral OIL and mineral SPIRITS are different. The latter is a solvent while the former is a lubricant such as for skin.
