One thing to look out for when using the brass sandwich in the
rolling mill is that not only is your silver completely annealed,
but that your brass is completely work hardened ( roll it through
the mill by itself or hammer the heck out of it). If the brass is
at all soft, the pressure from the mill will roll out the brass
instead of pushing the brass into the patterning material and the
silver. The more work hardened the better…

G’day’ Firstly don’t use sterling; it is too hard for what you
want to do. You will have to use fine silver thoroughly
annealed; don’t take it for granted that it is in the fully
annealed state when you buy it. Secondly the fine silver
Umm, I realize your knowledge of metalworking seems pretty far
beyond mine but I have roller printed sterling silver with lace,
with sandpaper, with leaves etc… I’m no expert and you
probably can get a deeper print with fine silver, but it is
possible with sterling if you can’t afford the hefty bite that
fine silver will take out of your wallet.
