Removing epoxy from pearls

I recently had to remove a couple of pearls from ear-posts. I tried the suggestions of using boiling water etc., all to no avail. I made a special soldering iron bit that would clamp the ear-post, switched the electric soldering iron on, gripped the pearl with my fingers and the strip of leather shown in the photo, and gently twisted back and forth until the pearl came off. The screw just clamps on the ear-post.
I got worried by the wisps of smoke that arose, but the pearl was undamaged.

I do something similar to this. I set the tip of my hot wax pen on the cup at the base of the pearl and adjust the heat as needed then I grab the pearl and twist until it comes off. You can do theis with pearls on rings.

Have fun!
