Red brass for etching

Last week at the Contemporary Crafts Market I met a jeweler who had
beautifully etched silver- very finely detailed. I usually etch
copper and then roll it onto my silver but I don’t get the detail I
saw there. She told me she used “red brass” to get these results. Rio
lists brass sheet, dead soft which they say is also known as
jeweler’s bronze or Merlin’s gold. Is this the same as red brass and
is it really better than copper for etching? If so,what is the best
gauge for etching and roller printing? By the way, I have used the
patterned brass sheet from Metaliferous and haven’t gotten a
particularly deep imprint. Maybe I am not rolling hard enough. I do
anneal the material that gets the imprint.
