Re Strange safety lesson

Oh yeah, like I said, I didn’t want to crowd the story with
extraneous details - so I didn’t. No matter what tool he was using,
gouge or scraper, he set up in a way that guaranteed trouble. Given
that setup, a square bowl blank on a faceplate - he didn’t even lop
off the corners with a saw first, just started with the full square,
about 8" x 8", and attacked it from the outside, instantly digging
into end grain - so kablooey! The more I think about it, the crazier
it seems. I have no idea how this guy convinced himself he had
something to teach people., It makes a person wonder about the
quality of that is regularly put out on the web by folks
like that - utterly enchanted by themselves. How many beginners must
take their advice as gospel?

Cheers, Marty
