Re. Hand Damage

Bag balm, udder balm or Udderly Smooth all seem to be fairly good. You
should, however, be aware that we work with chemicals which are drying to
the hands - alcohol being one of these. Unfortunately some of the remedies
for dry, cracking and chapped hands are just as damaging. Glycerine while
it feels greasey is actually a tri-hydoroxy alcohol and is hard on the skin

  • file this one under old wives tales. Lanolin is also properly known as
anhydrous lanolin. It is hydrophilic and can actually pull moisture from the
skin. Perhaps the best solution is to use either a silicone based hand
cream before exposure, or those old standbys vaseline and mineral oil.
