Questions to jewelers in Australia

This message is for jewelers in Australia. I have been asked to
speak to the Australian Jewellers by Nationwide Jewellers Group this
coming May. Their convention is in Brisbane Australia the weekend of
May 3rd & 4th (Friday and Saturday and believe the convention
continues through the first few days of the week.)

I will be speaking Friday May 3rd and Saturday May 4th. Friday on
Making money in Repairs and Custom Design and Saturday on
"Inventory-maybe not sure a good investment? 12 ways to get rid of
old inventory."

So I need the help of Australian Jewellers. Can you send me an email
and help with a few questions:

I’m from the understanding that in Australia jewellers sell 9kt and
18ky, no 14kt, correct?

Do you sell much 18kt/platinum and silver? I was given “Peekays
Findings” as a finding house to use for parts. They have been
generous in their info. Anyone else I should contact? The Australian
dollar is darn close to the American dollar, right? What does a
typical bench jeweler earn a year in Australia? I was told $60,000 a
year plus. Correct? What do you pay?

Whets “typical” prices you charge retail for
Sizing 9kt narrow ring smaller? 1 size larger?
Sizing 18kt narrow ring smaller? 1 size larger?
Sizing platinum narrow ring smaller? 1 size larger?
Sizing Silver narrow ring smaller? 1 size larger?
Simple gold solder
Charge to bead set a small diamond into the metal?
1 retip? Each additional tip?
Install a typical 6 prong white gold 1 ct round solitaire head on a
ring and set 1 ct diamond?
Labor only: carve/cast/finish (no material) a shadow wedding band?
Labor only: carve/cast/finish (no material) a typical ring band?

Thanks, see you in Brisbane?
Thanks Much

We do sell 14ct, and 22ct. 9ct, 18 ct and 22ct, are the most used.

I do a bit in silver, I personally don’t like platinum or palladium,
so I don’t play with it.

Try A&E they’re good with also. They are reliable metal
merchants.

The US dollar is getting better, and it’s close. I’m sort of hoping
that the US dollar gets stronger, so knife sales will increase

Charge to bead set a small diamond into the metal?

Some setters charge hardly anything, but they do quantity, so that’s
where the money is.

Thanks, see you in Brisbane?

Brisbane might be a bit thin this year, the Sydney show is pretty
well populated.
