[Quartzite 2010] General information

Hello All,

after years of procrastinating, I am going to make the trek to
Quartzite, Arizona, to buy gem rough. looking for larger aquamarines,
and of course jades and agates.

any suggestions whom to see?

I can’t give you a name of a specific vendor, but check out the
Desert Gardens rock & gem show, runs through Jan and Feb, and the
Q’site Pow Wow at the QIA bldg in the center of town. That show runs
from Jan 20 through the 24th. There are gem dealers all over town at
the smaller shows too. Tyson Wells has a rock show until the 15th,
but usually the vendors stay until the end of the Sell a Rama, which
ends on the 24th. That show is at the intersection of the I10 and
Hwy 95. No offramp there, but there are offramps at the east and west
ends of town.

Have fun,
Vicki

moved to Laughlin

You will probably do better at the Tucson 2010 shows finding good
Aquamarine Rough. The Pueblo Show and the La Quinta show are good
candidates for finding good quality and larger Aquamarine Rough.

Also the GJX show - which is a “wholesale only” show has several
vendors of quality faceting rough.

We have several parcels of aquamarine rough and some larger pieces
of Aquamarine Rough also.

Come see us in the GJX in booth Nr. 205 February 2-7th, 2010, Lowe
Associates

Best regards,
Robert P. Lowe Jr.

I know of one, the “Clouds” show.

You will probably find a better selection in Tucson, but expect to
pay more there. As a matter of fact, faceting material was rather
scarce at Quartzsite last year. Both Quartzsite and Tucson were
suffering from the effects of the bad economy last year, and likely
still are.

Thank you to all who posted info both on and off list.

yes, I am familiar with the Tucson show, I have been going to Tucson
for about 15 years now, and even own various internet domain names
connected with the show.

that said, when i look for unique rough, I almost always have more
fun digging through the back of someones ocean container/ore cart/
pickup truck / agate pile / yard than in an area that is well lit,
full of sales people. Of course this approach works better for larger
carving rough than it does for faceting material, but not always. I
have even purchased rough when it was a block of ore, still in the
ground, before it was mined.

So, this year, Quartzite, where I will be purchasing larger, unique
rough material
