Protecting Copper

Hi, Everyone!

I am doing some new designs using Copper chain, wire and other
findings and would like to give them an “older” look. Is there
anything anyone would reccomend as a safe patina (similar to bronze,
not green)and afterwards protection? I know Copper is very reactive
but I love the color and have seen beads made in Germany that hold
the color really well. I’ve had some for 10 or more years that still
look great and don’t cause the skin to darken.

I searched the archives but could not find anything specific to
Copper.

Thank you all for your generosity!

Vera, Charles Lewton-Brain has a patina book with great ideas. Also
look at Steve Midgetts “Mokume Gane” he has great patinas for many
metal combinations. Good luck Rich
