Is porosity-free silver possible at 8,000 units of production per
month? Is it possible and operationally practical to establish a
Porosity-Free QC policy at such volumes?
If I were doing that kind of production, I’d want to be using a
controlled atmosphere casting system, such as Galloni or Neutec
makes. That said, I suppose it would be possible if you were melting
in an electric melter and had a flow of argon/helium mixture over the
metal throughout the process of melting and pouring, then put the
flasks immediately in an oxygen starved atmosphere till cool. As for
policy, that depends on your customers and how much time you’re
willing to have wasted in finishing and regects.
