Plated sterling: the plate "bubbles" under heat

Another common plate for silver colored items these days is
palladium. Popular for items such as watches and watchbands. I’m
afraid I have no personal experience with palladium plating.

On a purely theoretical note: bubbles would be caused upon heating
in any plate which didn’t bond properly with its base during the
plating process—the trapped air would expand under even minimal
heat.
