Plated sterling omegas

I know this has been discussed from one angle before (soldering on
plated chain) but I’m hoping for advice from the “what do I use
instead” angle.

I was ignorant to the fact that sterling omega chains are plated. I
have a 6-mm omega that “fresh out of the package” had a dark spot on
it. In my ignorance I tried to polish it off and of course made it
worse.

My question is: Do most of you who sell omegas with your jewelry use
the plated chains? Do you warn your customers about the possibility
of removing the bright finish by too much exposure to jewelry cloths?
Do you use unplated chain?

Thanks for any advice,
Sue
