Placing pin stems

You might try piano wire. I used to get it from a local music
store. It comes in little coils, and of different guages, depending
on the pitch of the string it’s intended for.

I will send you a diagram in a couple days in .jpg format of a simple
doulbe pin I invented. I also have an idea on how a single pin-stem
could be stabilized somewhat for long, narrow pins. I will attempt
to upload the .jpg sketch (scanned) and the explanation as soon as
time permits. I’m a bit busy with a 40hr./wk job, 10 hr./wk drive
time, and a couple of trade accounts on the side. As you know, a
bench jeweler, even one with 27+ years experience and a couple
metalsmithing degrees, is hard pressed to make as much as a
brick-layer in Hoboken. Means a lot of hustling just to pay bills.
G’day y’self, you’ll be hearing from me! Thanks for the contact.
I’m a bit isolated up here in Northern Michigan.

Me again, John: Well, I got to the site and uploaded the images in the
incoming directory. I don’t know how or when they’ll get to where
anyone can see them, but they are call

(a design similar to the one in the ftp directory, but with my
modifications)

around the problems of “floppy” pins)
