Pearl source

Pedro (Palonso),

I think many of us share your concerns about environmental pollution.
Coming from a Tahitian pearl perspective, I think it’s important for
people to realize that Tahitian pearl oysters are very sensitive to
their environment (more so than Akoya oysters and mussels, from what
I understand). Because of this, the growth of perliculture in Tahiti
has resulted in more awareness and concern about water quality and
concerns about maintaining good controls. (In addition to the
concerns about health of coral, etc. which are raised by the tourism
industry)

Meanwhile, because jewelry making by its very nature is hard on the
environment, I hope we all remain aware of environmental issues and
work to lessen the negative impact we might have.
