Oxidation Flaking Off

I have a question regarding oxidizing with Liver of Sulfur. I have
done this for years, however recently some of the pieces are coming
out of the solution and then flaking; even when I clean it up and
re-oxidize, many continue to flake off…it doesn’t happen to the
whole batch or to items in every batch; almost random. Has anyone
else experienced this or does anyone have an idea of why this is
happening?

thanks

the liver of sulphur flakes off when your metal is too hot.

Normally this is because the solution is too concentrated. It is
possible that there are greasy or oily spots interfering as well.

Dear Kristin Lora

Yes, I have been there, done it, allthough with a merchantile
selenium sulphide solution. I eventually found out that I could avoid
the problem if I used a thinner solution and took the time for this
one to work. Also I think that when I use LoS that I get a far better
and more durable “oxydation” by using leaner solutions.
