Oval jump rings

To make light gauge oval jump rings I make round ones then solder
them closed. To open them I use a tool called an “O” ring separator.
I think this is the tool that John Burgess referred to in his reply.
They are available in most good hardware stores. The jaws open when
you grip the handle. Regards, Barbi Goldsmith (mostly lurking
orchidian)

That’s probably actually a “C” ring separator, if you’re asking at
the hardware store.

Yes Victoria, there is a Santa Claus. His name is Ray Grossman (me).
For nearly 2 years I worked on designing a simple and relatively
inexpensive system for quickly and easily winding and saw cutting
perfect oval jump rings. The system is called Oval Jump Ringer. It
consists of five graduated size mandrels from approximately 1.5mm X
2.8mm to 4.9mm X 8.1, an oval coil holder, a table mounted winder with
a 1/2" (12mm) capacity Jacobs chuck, a blade guard/guide to fit over
the blade and Foredom #30 hand piece, a circular saw mounted in a
blade arbor and complete instructions. The Oval Jump Ringer is made as
a complete unit or, if you already have a round Jump Ringer, as a
conversion kit. It is available from most jewelry tool distributors
in the U.S. and Canada. If you have any questions, please contact me.
