Otto Frei great customer service experience

I purchased a torch from Otto Frei back in January and only when it
got warm in my garage studio did I set it up. WHOOOOOSSSSHHH. Major
gas leak around the threads! No need for soap solution–there was a
propane breeze blowing hair out of my eyes.

Through email correspondence with Larry in Otto Frei’s customer
service, I accepted his offer of a replacement, rather than having
the leaking torch repaired. He got it in the mail the same day and I
was melting bezels in no time. What a lovely experience: I was
treated courteously, given appropriate options, and the transaction
happened quickly. I’m actually not surprised–they were great when I
won the lovely Durston Mills in the Raffle a couple years ago.

If only my mail supply pharmacy would take notice of Otto Frei’s
customer service quality. they still haven’t figured out the
difference between albuterol inhaler and albuterol solution.

Sounds like a dangerous place to do business! I’d report that to the
state pharmacy board, and double-check any medication they send
(actually, you should do that anyway.)

I concur with the positive assessment of Otto Frei. I’ve had nothing
but good experience with them.

Speaking about problems with propane. I bought a standard size
propane tank from a local chain. I took it home and didn’t set it up
right away. After a couple weeks I set to and got it all together.
hmmm. I smell propane! Get out the soapy mix and check. It’s where
the gauge mounts on the tank. Tightened things up. no more bubbles.
ok! A few days pass and I start up the torch again. hmmm. I smell
propane! Same routine, same location, same fix. No more propane
smell. A few days go by once again, same routine, same problem, same
location, but this time I shut everything down and dismount the
regulators. Upon inspection the gasket in the propane tank was not
only deformed, but cut as well. I know it wasn’t me. I simply put
the gauge in and out of the valve, no rotation of the stem, only the
mounting collar nut. What was my fault was not inspecting it upon
purchase. The mantra I heard upon return was “I’m sorry, but if you
had returned it within 21 days of purchase.”

I guess caveat emptor still applies.
