Orchid Chat Room

I have given this some thought and I will have to restrict the
times that the chat room is open. I am unable to run both the chat
room and my personal ICQ account at the same time. This means
that during my working hours, I appear to be offline to co-workers
and associates if I am running the chat room. Therefore I will
only run the chat room between 5pm and 8am PST on weekdays and 24
hours on the weekends. If others are want to run the chat room
when it is offline, they can email me for the password and
instructions on how to do it.

Also ICQ is just one of many solutions. We could run an IRC chat
server on my box as a private chat network, set up an IRC channel
on an existing network, or set a web page with a java chat system.
Each of these solutions has its good and bad points. What would
the collective Orchid list like to do? I am very willing to set
up what ever it is you want to do. I am not much of a jeweler,
but I am a very good computer programmer and I hope that this can
be my way of contributing to the list.

Let the debates begin.

This sounds like a great idea. Just let me know what is decided,
I’d like to join in and “let my fingers do the talking”.

What would the collective Orchid list like to do?

Hello all:

I think it would be great to have a chat room, or even have orchid
on a “Bulletin Board” type thing to reduce emails, but I think that
it should stay under ORCHID. What I mean is that, we should suggest
this to the Orchid people and let them put it together. Or at least
give it their blessing. I am afraid that as bigger and better
things come along, the people who made it happen in the begining
sometimes get left out.

Geoff: The alternatives you give for a chat room set-up don’t
mean much to those of us who are computer novices. Which of those
would be the most universal to access, so that most people could
get to it without too much by way of special features on their
computer? Sandra

And I’ll need an Acorn RiscOS version! Anyone here from
Cambridge UK?

Ok, folks, I’ve gone and registered on ICQ - my UID is 8740752 for
anyone who wants to reach me. Hope to see some of you soon!

I’m sorry about the link not working. It worked fine for me and I
assumed that it would for everyone else.

Try this one.

Geoff…I appreciate the work you must have done to set up this
room. I don’t have any problems accessing it but I have some
questions. Is there a way to see more of the past messages and is
there anyway to type longer sentences?

Marilyn

Geoff - I’m having a problem with the line. I connect just fine
and can read about the last 8-10 responses. When I type in my
reply, I cannot see it not do any other replies get recorded. If I
Reload, sometimes I can see my remark, but not always. What am I
doing wrong? Gini in Fla.
