‘Turangawaewae’ (Identity) is the theme for this year’s Biennial
Jewellery Exhibition organised by the Dowse Art Museum, Lower
Hutt, New Zealand to tour NZ 1998/99. I’m one of a dozen New
Zealand Jewellers selected to exhibit. Ths is my response so far.
I’m still finalising these pieces into cohesive bunches.
Replica leather frame from the 1300s leather, CR39 lenses
Replica 1500s frame. Wooden virtual eyewear, birch plywood
New Zealand on a biscuit tin - Green Scene
Judges Bay, Auckland new Zealand, painting by Alfred Sharpe 1874
Things My Mother Wore
You Are What You Wear
’Tinkerbell’, Prime Ministerial Dress-ups - pure tin
Intelligentzia, painted stainless steel
Intelligentzia slot and tab - flat version, painted stainless steel
This last range of dress-up specs will be produced as give-away
kitsets for Jo General Public to take away and play with.
Coincidently, the Dowse approached me and asked me if I had
anything they could hand out to classes of children, as they have a
great policy of educating the public, starting with 5 and 6
year-old children. I’ll adapt this kitset for their little knubby
fingers and the Dowse Educational Officer will take classes
through the exhibition and then they will each get to decorate
their own pair of dress-up specs. Groovy or what.
