Of course we do not wish to hasten the extinction of any animal. However, these laws are not going to change anything.
Maybe if they write enough laws they’ll stop the trade like they’ve
done with heroin…
However, I'm certain the majority of Ganoksin contributors would not wish to be party in any way to hastening the extinction of African or Asian elephants.
It’s unimaginable.
If only elephants could be owned and farmed like cows…
Does this mean they will confiscate all pianos in the US…:-)…?

LOL you never know when it comes to idiots, Currently if you try to
cross the border with a piano (Or any instrument with Ivory inlays
(Example some old brass instruments like a Saxophone sometimes had
the keys inlayed too) the instrument will be seized by the minions of
Homeland Insecurity.

Ivory from piano keys must be stripped! How this affects the piano,
let alone the ivory does not matter. Some famous concert pianist
[I’ve forgotten name] bought an antique piano [or harpsicord] in
England to be shipped to the States. He was not allowed to have it
until the ivory was stripped. This was in the 80’s. The outcome I do
not know; hopefully the instrument is still in England. Intact.
The proposed new laws do not include confiscating ivory already in
the country. They only pertain to the sale of ivory. On imports of
antiques, one only has to show proof of origin. It looks like the new
laws will be blocked by congress.
