Need to replace earring posts with something different closure

This post doesn’t allow enough space for earlobe & clutch. They’re fairly heavy (16 gr) Any suggestions for a more practical & secure closure? Thank you in advance. Sheila

Wow! that is heavy. I make twisted bracelets that weigh 16 grams. Since the piece appears to be all silver, you could solder on a vertical piece where the post meets the earring and then add the post high enough to allow room for the earlobe and nut. You might also think about a threaded post and nut or a hinged wire that is secured in some way opposite the hinged side. Good luck…Rob

Thank you Rob for your reply. I bought these earrings more than a half century ago before I knew better. I remember the first time I wore them. They were so heavy that I had to raise my shoulders so the earrings could rest on them. I guess I got used to it. And yes, they appear to be silver, but who knows – what’s the worst that can happen? I’m thinking now that maybe I’ll just try to solder a shorter post higher than the one now & use a heavier nut - it should give it more room for the lobe & hopefully that’ll help secure it better. I’m always looking for the easiest way out. I’ll keep you posted.

I would try to modify them like one of these earrings.

That is what I was trying to describe. Thanks for interpreting my words in pictures…Rob

Thank you both!

Since they are so heavy you might consider making a necklace or two, maybe suspending a set stone in the center. Or on a bracelet maybe flanking a center piece. Just a few thoughts…~~~*Stv

I had considered turning them into something different. But, I’m giving them to my granddaughter who wears heavy hoops already. I’m going to do a quick fix, just so she can try them before we go further.
Thanks for your response to my question.
