[Need] Book on thermal dynamics of precious metals

Need a good book on Thermal Dynamics of Precious Metals

Hi Guys,

I thought someone on the list may be able to help me.

I need a good book on thermal dynamics of precious metals, of course
I’d settle for all metals, or all elements, if precious metals is too
specific.

Basically the solidification of metals, percentage contraction, that
kind of thing.

Introduction to Precious Metals; Metallurgy for Jewelers and
Silversmiths by Mark Grimwade; publisher-Brynmorgen Press. From
Brynmorgen or from Amazon.com. I think it’s what you’re looking for.

Hope this helps,
Linda Kaye-Moses

Mark Grimwade’s Introduction to Precious Metals is excellent. For
more in-depth and technical, see Prof. Dr. Erhard Brepohl’s The
Theory and Practice of Goldsmithing. Both are available from various
sources.

Hello Charles,

The best Metal Reference book that I have found is Smithells Metals
Reference Book (now in its eighth edition,

edited by William Gale and Terry Totemeier, another book that I find
very useful is Thermochemical Processes: Principles and Models by
C.B. Alcock

and the classic thermodynamic text for metallurgists is Metallurgical
Thermochemistry (fifth edition,
http://www.ganoksin.com/jewelry-books/us/product/0080208975)

by Kubaschewski and Alcock.

If you don’t want all this ‘bedtime reading’ if you contact me
offline and let me know what specific data you require I should be
able to help.

Best wishes,
Charles

Thanks Charles, and all the others who have posted thus far

Thermochemical Processes: Principles and Models… got a headache
from the title, checked the contents… wow. I’ll keep that one in
mind for later.

I’ve ordered one of the books, I sort of figure that if I’m going to
use precious metals, I reckon I have to get a little bit more
intimate with them.

Thanks all regards Charles A.
P.S. I will take you up on your offer to tide me over until the book
arrives
