Music to work by

I’ll jump in here with my tale. I went to a workshop where the
instructor requested…“bring your tunes” Silly me. I took CD’s.
Everyone else had I Pods.

Hi All,

Gotta to admit, I listen to just about everything. Seems to me, what
I listen to changes with the seasons. I love listening to raegge and
the Beach Boys in the summer. When fall rolls around I listen to a
lot of Clapton (especially “From the Cradle”). However, now that we
are nearing Christmas time, I listen to a lot of Chanticleer.
They’re a 16 part a cappella male group in San Francisco. “Psallite”
has to be my favorite… a collection of Renaissance Christmas music.
Nothing seems to let me relax and delve into a meditative work state
like some classical liturgical music sung in Latin. Yeah, I know…
I’m weird. But that’s what you get when you go from singer to
jeweler. Oh well. Just my two cents. Have a great day everyone!

Why don’t you try Randi Rhodes, Rachael Maddow or Thom Hartman…or
turn your music UP and listen LOUD…either would be more palpable
to the ears than Limbaugh or Boortz. IMHO.

for those of you into the classical thing, which includes me, at
times, try http://www.xlnc1.org

Thanks, John. It’s great - I have it on now and it will probably
play all day. For my working time, I love classical music. I am so
much more creative with it playing in the background.

I shudder to think what sort of jewelry I would develop under the
influence of her music (mostly hiphop),

Well if my experience is any to go by, it could be quite
interesting. Despite my advanced years, when alone in my shop, in my
creative modes I primarily listen to hardcore gangster rap, hip hop
and reggae although my ipod in fact has an extremely broad range of
music (I like to support the Dixie Chicks because of their political
stance but I’m not really into country).

Leonid,

My husband, the stealth box designer for JL ears perked up when I
mentioned Chopin? so I have a feeling I’m going to get introduced to
Classical Music.

Thanks for the suggestion…let’s see what develops!

Unfortunately with all the lapidary equipment running in my studio
with the big front door enjoying music is not realistic. But I can
tell just by the changes in the melody which saw has finished a cut
and is ready to be set up for the next cut or which pulley needs a
shot from the old oil can or which vibratory tumbler needs a couple
squirts of water. It’s a music of sorts I suppose…

All,

I plug my I pod in or have my mac laptop plugged into a killer Bose
system I never get through all of the tunes on either machine during
the work day. I usually set it to shuffle and l get to listen to
everything from guns and roses to Brookes and Dunn to James Taylor.
I’m writing country (My Space.com/morley220) so I listen to my own
tunes and friends I write with in Nashville. My tastes are across
the spectrum and music moves me in many different directions.

Try theclassicalstation.org - excellent classical music 24/7
interspersed here and there by interesting tidbits about the
composers - and listener supported, commercial free. Plays in my
house and studio all day, every day.

Tune in today and tomorrow for “Beetoven Fest” !

I’m in Podunk, TN and we have only two talk stations. I can only get
what I get.

I’m searching for a cheap “ghetto blaster” that plays MP3’s burned
to CD’s so I can listen to my zillions (60+ GB MP3) of Audiobooks.
(Suggested URL’s welcomed offlist.)

And while I’m just over 50, I listen to too much new(ish) music like
Nelly, Beck, Aphex Twin, Peas, Hazmat Modine,Kanye, Lady Sovereign,
Dread Zepplin, etc. I’ve well over 250 GB of MP3’s of music but only
listen in my car (I spent more on the sound system than I did on the
car and don’t have collision but do have insurance on the system.)
I’ve no landed system with the punch I desire and no plans to buy
one. Limbaugh & Boortz keep my blood pressure up and help me work
faster, though Randy Rhodes would certainly do the same.

One last one from me… www.kcsm.org bills itself as the only radio
station in America that still plays jazz 24 hrs. a day. It’s public
radio (no ads, for you non-USA). They also have shows, as radio does.
Two of my favs are Nuthin’ But the Blues, Fridays 8 or 9-12pm, I
forget the start, but it rocks. And Latin Jazz, Sundays 2-6 also
rocks. They also play Elwood Blues (Dan Akroyd which is taped), but I
never can remember when, it’s just there sometimes… Otherwise I’ve
been grabbing some of the links others have posted… ;}

Hey people…the best investment I ever made in listening music was
XM satellite radio. I can instantly go from folk music to anything
else I want. Has 7 channels of just x-mas music. I am
addicted…Ted

Yaay, I’m not the only one!!! I often listen to recordings of Latin
choral music composed by Hildegarde von Bingen while I’m working. A
nice variation on that is an album called

“Passage - 138 BC - AD 1611” by the Empire Brass Quintet.
http://tinyurl.com/25p4mj

It’s von Bingen’s music, reworked into instrumentals with an
occasional modern twist. Magical stuff. I can get into a nice flow
state with a few of those tunes set on ‘repeat’.

And thanks to John Donivan for passing along the link to
Pandora.com. I’m already becoming addicted to training stations to
play “my” kinds of music!

Hi All;

Get a satellite radio like Sirius or XM, you’ll have so many choices
you won’t know what to do, and you can call it a business expense.
Not enough left wing talk radio for me, though. I’d listen to flat
out Marxist propoganda while being waterboarded before I’d listen to
Mr. Lintball and the rest of that ilk.

Interesting and fun to see everyones taste in music!

Music plays a big influence in my life and helps me get through the
day. I’d like to consider my taste in music eclectic and can range
from Electro to Soul, Hip hop to Jazz, Classic Rock (no offence but
hey, some of the tunes I listened to in the 80-90’s is considered
Classic Rock now!) to Punk and I usually tune in to N.P.R. in the
morning.

Since everything is online and most radio stations do online
streaming or have podcasts to download I find it interesting to
listen to radio stations/podcasts outside of America. (Currently I’m
all about the music that’s coming out of Sweden.) Here are some
websites for online radio stations in and outside of America.

Also is you’re in need of some new world music to check out P. R.
I.'s The World - Global Hits list.

I haven’t put on any holiday music…well except for Vince
Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack.

My musical tastes are all over the place, but when it comes down to
working hard (or hardly working) I enjoy the following in no
particular order.

System of a Down, Sublime, Temple of the Dog, Aphex Twin, Crash Test
Dummies, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Modest Mouse, Tenatious D, Jethro
Tull, DMB, Squirrle Nut Zippers, Chili Peppers, Slipknot, Iron
Maiden, Janes Addiction.

Unfotuntately for me, a buddy of mine owns a hi-fi shop down in
Phoenix (tubeaudio.com), if you havent had the chance to listen to
music on a dedicated two channel tube audio setup, you dont know what
your missing. My new favorite speaker are the Duvel Plantes…oh man,
these are hella cool, one day ill get some…Okay Ill stop now,
talking hi-fi is a whole other realm.

Cool music at WWOZ 90.7 FM, New Orlean’s jass and heritage station
(http://www.wwoz.org)

Enjoy

In our store, we have a broad selection of Motown, Blues, R& B, Mob
Hits, and “crooners”, i.e. Dean Martin, Tony Bennett et al. It’s not
what we love to work with but what our customers, regardless of age
seem to enjoy. We get at least one comment a day along the lines of
"love your music"… It’s a mellow mix and you can’t help but
dance around a little from time to time.

When we are working in the back on Sundays when we are closed to
customers, the mix is more like Led Zepplin, Stones, Clapton, Danny
Gatton… we love screamin’ lead guitar players. When a hurricane
is coming we listen to the local radio stations despite the awful
programming to figure out when to board up and head out!

Peggy Wilson on the Outer Banks of NC (OBX), where the storm that is
dumping snow further north and west is producing gale force winds
and soundside flooding tonite.

Any and every CD ever released by Rachid Taha. My two favorites
:Diwan 2 and Tekitoi.

Gets the synapses firing and the creative sparks flying every time.
